Steve Peterson’s extraordinary banking knowledge and past experience as a successful business owner are a proven combination for building a bank from the ground floor up. Now, he and his team are replicating that success for CrossFirst Bank as it establishes its presence in Wichita, Kansas.

Before being named a Managing Partner and Wichita President for CrossFirst Bank in 2011, Peterson served as Division President for $2.7 billion Stillwater National Bank in Austin, Texas; a position he began in 2004. At SNB, he established a new office, hired staff and implemented a business plan which resulted in a significant new bank in Austin. He led similar efforts for launching a new SNB branch in San Antonio. Peterson specialized in selected market segments including real estate, healthcare and executives, which transitions well to CrossFirst Bank’s emphasis on serving business owners, professionals and their families in extraordinary ways.

Prior to joining SNB, Peterson was a City President for Compass Bank and a Vice President, Commercial Banking, at Commerce Bank in Wichita. He also served as Commerce Bank’s Community Bank President in Derby, Kansas. His banking career began more than 25 years ago at BANK IV where he worked in lending and commercial business development.

Peterson also owned and operated a successful restaurant franchise in Wichita from 1991, until he and his wife Suzanne sold the company in 1998.

Born and raised in Wichita, Peterson graduated from Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School, and earned a degree in business administration from the University of Kansas. While residing in Austin, Peterson served on the Saint Williams Church Finance Board, Executive Board of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, and Austin Medical Practice Managers Association Board. He also was President of the Georgetown Symphony Society Board of Directors. Peterson is a member of the 2013 Class of Leadership Kansas and is involved with the Wichita Chamber and Rotary Club of East Wichita.
