At 6’7”, Mike Maddox stands above many of his banking counterparts; and that height was certainly an advantage when he was a forward for the University of Kansas basketball team, winning the national championship in 1988. He also served as captain of the 1991 national runner-up KU team. Now, Maddox leads a championship team of bankers at CrossFirst Bank, where has served as President & CEO since 2008.

Maddox was born in Wichita, Kansas where his mother, a Wichita East High graduate, met his father, a Wichita State University football and basketball player. His father went on to work for a prominent Pizza Hut franchisee and eventually moved the family to Oklahoma City, where Maddox was raised and graduated as a standout basketball player at Putnam City North High School. He went on to attend the University of Kansas and graduated with a business degree in 1991. Maddox then continued his education at KU and earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University Of Kansas School of Law in 1994. In addition to being a four-year letterman and a member of the KU basketball team, he was an active member of the Kansas Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Maddox practiced law in Lawrence for more than six years. He started with the Stevens & Brand Law Firm and then spent three years at the Skepnek & Maddox Law Firm. He has been in banking for 11 years. Maddox joined INTRUST Bank in February 2000, when he was hired to be the Community Bank President in Lawrence, Kansas. In 2004, he was promoted to Regional President and managed all banking operations in Northeast Kansas for INTRUST. The Northeast region included Topeka, Lawrence and Kansas City markets. Maddox attended the Graduate School of Banking in Wisconsin and completed that program in 2003.

Maddox is involved in a number of community activities and has served on the boards of the following organizations: Kansas City Chapter of Young Presidents Organization; KU School of Business; Kansas Chamber of Commerce, Chairman; Chair of the Kansas Chamber PAC; Member of Kansas Bankers Association Legislative Affairs Committee; KU Athletic Corporation Board; Member of Kansas Board of Regents Task Force on Admissions.

He has participated in the following leadership programs: Leadership Kansas Class of 2007, Centurions Class of 2004, and Leadership Lawrence Class of 2000. In the past, Maddox was a member of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the Lawrence/Douglas County Economic Development Board, President of Lawrence Public Schools Foundation, and a board member for Kansas City Area Development Council.
